Evan Douthit was a successful trial attorney with more than 30 years of experience in the areas of product liability, catastrophic personal injury, commercial/business litigation and military law. He was born on December 29, 1953 and died at the age of 61 on July 10, 2015. Evan spent his early life in Oklahoma City. He attended the University of Oklahoma where he was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training Corps. He graduated from University of Oklahoma in 1976 and was named Distinguished Military Graduate. Evan attended Oklahoma City University School of Law and graduated in 1979 with a juris doctorate degree. Later that year, he graduated from the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s School. In 1979, Evan was commissioned as a Captain in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps and served four years as a JAG officer prosecuting and defending criminal felony cases. In 1983, he joined a civil litigation firm in Kansas City where he was retained by a number of large corporations, including some Fortune 500 companies, in the defense of products liability claims as their local, regional and national counsel. In 1995, Evan was one of the founding members of Douthit Frets Rouse Gentile & Rhodes, LLC. He was instrumental in creating the firm and leading the firm to its present level of success. Evan brought to the legal representation of his clients the unique perspective of a highly experienced plaintiff’s lawyer who also was a highly experienced defense lawyer. During a distinguished career, he was lead attorney in nearly 200 trials in state, federal and military courts across the United States. His commitment to the zealous representation of his clients and his success in the courtroom was well known and respected among his peers. He leaves behind an enduring legacy and his contributions to the law firm will long be remembered.
